Nepal’s Nightmare, Earthquake 2015

Posted on June 8, 2015August 14, 2018 by Dharma Documentaries
An Australian TV report from Nepal on the April earthquake disaster and the consequences on the ground.

Nepal's Nightmare

This is a report by Australian TV’s Dateline programme on the disaster that struck Nepal on 25 April 2015, and its almost equally disastrous aftermath.

The toll from the earthquake was well over 8,000 dead, and over 20,000 injured; and besides this many buildings were destroyed leaving a crisis of on-going concern.

The destruction of historical sites, and the deaths on Mt Everest, will also damage tourism, which is a major economical factor in the country.

The programme is one of the first I have seen to show just how extensive the damage was, and talks, amongst others, to survivors and people who are working on the relief effort.

The disaster seems to have been followed, at least in the eyes of many people, by a serious mismanagement crisis, especially at government level.

Most of the work that really helped on the ground appears to have been done by volunteer groups who came from various countries, and by the people themselves.
