Lost Worlds: City of the God Kings

This is one of the more intelligent reviews of what we know about the Angkor civilisation that flourished in Cambodia between the 9th and 14th centuries.

This documentary is one of the more intelligent reviews of what we know about the Angkor civilisation that flourished in Cambodia between the 9th and 14th centuries.

Produced by Philip Day for Discovery’s Lost Worlds series the film talks to archeologists and historians from America, France and England about the recent discoveries that have taken place and their significance for understanding the place of Angkor in world history.

Drawing on everything from the records of the Chinese official Zhou Daguan to the latest NASA images we see how they have helped reconstruct a city around the size of present-day London, by far the largest city in the ancient world.

The documentary also features CGI reconstructions of the city and reenactments of life in the Empire, with its Divine King, court and religious ceremonies, as well as interviews with the relevant authorities.
