Yeshi Dolma, Song of Tibet

Posted on October 25, 2019October 25, 2019 by Dharma Documentaries
A story about a Tibetan woman and the three men in her life.

Yeshi Dolma, Song of Tibet

This is a movie by Xie Fei from Tibet, made around the year 2000, which covers the life of a woman and the men in her life from 1950 during the feudal system, through the cultural revolution in the 60s and 70s, and into the present day.

In Lhasa an elderly couple live in the shadow of the Potala Palace. Their educated granddaughter comes to visit them, and over the course of time grandma tells her about the three men in her life: her husband, who literally carried her off into the night; her lover, the Landlord in their peasant community; and a childhood friend who becomes a monk, and eventually a famous lama.

The movie is beautifully written, acted and directed, and features an all-Tibetan cast. Politics is in the background, and a simple woman’s life and loves are to the fore. This is surely a film you will remember for a long time, and will want to tell others about. Set aside an evening for it.
