Novice Pheerawit Srisamer wanted to ordain from when he was very young, being guided in the ways of Buddhism by his family, and at the age of 17 he received his initial ordination into the monk’s life at Wat Pa Manee Sri Kotamawong, under the guidance of his preceptor, Luang Pu Sri Siritharo.
He then returned to his home temple at Wat Pa Phatthanataham in Udon Thani (Thailand), where he has since been serving Luang Pu Boonsom Samāthiviriyo, who at the time of filming in 2025 was 98 years old. Although initially a very independent monk, at this advanced age he has to rely on his novice to look after him, which includes everything from washing him, cleaning his robes and bowl, and making sure he has whatever he needs to be comfortable.
The day is long and the work has to be carried out meticulously, as Luang Pu is still quite demanding. Novice Pheerawit does his best, evidently acting with mindfulness and care to make sure his master is served well. Later Novice Pheerawit hopes to improve his meditation and at least attain Sotapatti, but for now he is building a solid foundation in service to his master.
