Carving Destiny, Kathmandu

Posted on February 17, 2020February 17, 2020 by Dharma Documentaries
A look at a family of master carvers from the Shakya clan in Nepal.

Carving Destiny, Kathmandu

This is a very short (5-minute) but interesting report from Kathmandu which looks at how one family of traditional stone carvers are passing on their knowledge and work from generation to generation.

Traditionally the Shakya clan has supplied the master carvers for the temples in Nepal, but with the lack of new temples being built the craft is dying out. Here we see though one master craftsman at work, and how he is trying to pass the art on to his sons.

eedless to say the maintenance of the arts and crafts is a life-line for a people’s culture, so we can only hope they are able to continue and flourish in these difficult times.
