Relics found in Jingchuan, Gansu, China

Posted on October 29, 2021October 29, 2021 by Dharma Documentaries
The discovery of thousands of Buddhist relics in China and their preservation.

Relics found in Jingchuan

This is the remarkable story of a series of archeological finds stretching over 50 years made in Jingchuan County in Gansu, which is around 250km north-west of the ancient Chinese capital of Chang-an.

The first discovery was made by farmers in 1964, and unearthed a magnificent reliquary, one of the finest of its kind, and which dated to the time of the Buddhist Empress Wu Zetian in the 7th century.

The second discovery, again by farmers was made 5 years later and was of relics from 100 years prior to Wu Zetian, during the period of Emperor Wen, who was also a Buddhist devotee.

The third, and arguably the most important find, was made in 2013, in which literally thousands of relics were found in a large reliquary in the same area.

This film by CCTV 9, which was originally published as ‘Mystery of the Underground Palace in Dayun Temple’, is here published in a playlist.
