Land of the Thunder Dragon

Posted on May 28, 2021May 28, 2021 by Dharma Documentaries
A look at the Bhutanese dynasty in historical perspective, seeing how it has developed over time.

Land of the Thunder Dragon

The Wanchuck dynasty in Bhutan is one of Asia’s youngest monarchies, being introduced in the early 20th century as a former ruler of one of the fortress-monastic Dzong’s took charge of the whole country.

Since then Bhutan has had five kings in the dynasty who have secured their position by astute political moves, and often being ahead of their time in their thoughts about ruling the country.

This film looks at the history of Bhutan and situates the Wangchuck dynasty in its historical perspective by talking to some of the people who have witnessed the transformation of the country first hand.

There is no doubt that this is one of Asia’s most loved monarchies, and how they have succeeded in maintaining their position of Fathers of the nation is examined in this interesting film from Channel News Asia in Singapore.
