Unheard Voices and Notes to Myself

A film following Indian students as they go to Dharamsala to learn more about Tibetan culture and history.

Unheard Voices and Notes to Myself

This is a film about the annual Gurukul (Teacher & Student) programme organised by The Foundation for Universal Responsibility, which was set up by HH Dalai Lama in 1994, to bring Indian students and Tibetans together in Dharamsala to learn more about the culture and situation of Tibet.

The programme basically brings graduates from some of the universities in India to meet, live with and learn about Tibetan culture from the teachers, and includes programmes on the arts & crafts, Buddhist philosophy, ethics and meditation. The programme is very much hands-on with the students trying their hands at the various arts & crafts, learning from masters in philosophy classes, and studying Tibetan history and culture.

The film, which was made by a former student himself, followed the 2011 class during their month-long programme, as they experience life in Dharamsala. Everyone seems to have had a good time and learned much from the encounter, which would otherwise have been unavailable to them just through study at home, no matter how deep.
