Peace Parks

Posted on September 16, 2022September 16, 2022 by Dharma Documentaries
A look at the idea of Peace Parks crossing the borders of nations, and bringing them together.

Peace Parks

A Peace Park can be defined as a wildlife park that straddles across human made and arbitrary borders. A number have been successfully established, and more are projected once the political situation allows.

One of the first was to join the Kruger National Park in South Africa with the Great Limpopo in Mozambique, which was opened by Nelson Mandela, and now gives migratory animals a far greater space and freedom, that they had when the two parks were fenced off at the border.

A second is on the border of Costa Rica and Panama where another peace park straddles the border areas, making much more sense ecologically, and also proving to be economically successful, as well as encouraging cooperation between countries.

Others have been proposed, like establishing one between Jordan and Israel, and another between North and South Korea. The idea is certainly better than the warring areas borders often become, but of course there are challenges. Is it beyond human beings to overcome their articial divisions?
