Si Satchanalai, Thailand (Expoza)

Posted on March 11, 2019March 24, 2019 by Dharma Documentaries
A short film about the ancient capital of the Thai kingdom of Sukhothai which flourished from the 13th-16th centuries.

Si Satchanalai, Thailand

This is from a series of films by Global Television shot all over world, giving well photographed introductions to various places, of which we will be focusing on the ones of interest to Buddhists.

The films are quite light introductions to their subjects, mainly good photography, well chosen soundtracks, and a reasonable, but sometimes inaccurate, narration giving a cultural and historical introduction to its subject.

This one takes a look at Si Satchanalai, which used to be the capital city of the Sukhothai kingdom in Thailand from around the 13th-16th centuries. The city is situated around 500km north of Bangkok has been largely restored and features a palace and many temples including Wat Phra Si Ratana Mahathat, Wat Chedi Chet Thaeo, Wat Chang Lom and Wat Chom Chuen.

The films shows many of the monuments that remain, and gives a quick overview of the kingdom and its importance in Thai history, and serves as a good introduction to both the city and the kingdom.
