Ulaanbaatar (Expoza)

Posted on January 23, 2017January 23, 2017 by Dharma Documentaries
A look at the life and culture inside and around the Mongolian capital of Ulaanbaatar.

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia

This is from a series of films by Global Television shot all over world, giving well photographed introductions to various places, of which we will be focusing on the ones of interest to Buddhists.

The films are quite light introductions to their subjects, mainly good photography, well chosen soundtracks, and a reasonable, but sometimes inaccurate, narration giving a cultural and historical introduction to its subject.

In this week’s episode the team travel to the capital of Mongolia, Ulaanbaatar, to see some of the life and culture in this once powerful country; although the film focuses of the capital itself, it also manages some excursions into the countryside.

In the capital we see some of the main landmarks of the city, which include a number of monasteries, the Buddha Park and some very interesting Museums. We also visit some of the monasteries (Hyid) which are located outside the capital, including one in a splendid setting in the Terelj National Park.

At the end we also see a re-enactment of the colourful Nadaam festival, featuring traditional dancers and sportsmen; and the traditional story of the Moon Stone.
