This is the first in a new series of documentaries I will be posting from Chinese Central TV, this time the focus is on SE Asia and its civilisations.
The first of the series looks at the kingdom of Sukhothai (in Pali: Sukhodaya), which flourished from the 13th-15th centuries in the north east of the country.
Although the kingdom wasn’t founded by him, it really came to its peak under King Ramkamhaeng, who is generally considered now the Father of the Thai country.
It was during his reign that Theravada Buddhism was introduced from Sri Lanka and became the state religion, and many important temples and artifacts date from this period.
