Religious Linkages Between Bhutan and Ladakh

Posted on October 5, 2012 by Dharma Documentaries
A film exploring the links between two kingdoms that lie at either end of the Tibetan plateau.

Bhutan-Ladakh

Bhutan and Ladkh lie at either end of the Tibetan Plateau and geographically are poles apart as well, with Bhutan being a lush country on the sides of the Himalayas, while Ladakh is a high desert atop them.

Nevertheless for more than a thousand years there have been cultural and mercantile exchanges between the two countries, which continues to this day.

Both of them currently share a common religion in Tibetan Buddhism, and once again there is a growing connection between the two remote kingdoms.

This film traces those linkages from ancient to modern times by interviewing many religious and cultural authorities from both countries.

The documentary is marred somewhat in my estimation by the modern obsession with fast-editing, slowing and quickening the action, etc. which is simply an unwarranted distraction, but it settles down after a while and is quite informative on the cultural history of the regions.
