U Nu speaking about Buddhism

Posted on November 4, 2011October 22, 2013 by Dharma Documentaries
Interview with the Burmese Premier U Nu around 1956 for the American series See It Now, in which he discusses Buddhism and appears to claim to have entered the first path (sotapatti).

U Nu was Premier of Burma three times, was one of the great leaders of the country in the modern age, and a devout Buddhist.

He organised the 6th Council (Cha??ha Sangayana) in 1956, had the Kaba Aye Pagoda built, as well as the Maha Pasana Guha, where the council was held.

He also made Buddhism the state religion (though that aggravated relations with other minorities), reintroduced the Uposatha Holidays and banned the slaughter of cattle.

This is an interview with him around 1956 for the American series See It Now, in which he discusses Buddhism and appears to claim to have entered the first path (sotapatti).
