Subtitled, The Extraordinary Life of His Eminence Garchen Triptrul Rinpoche, this is an intimate look at the life and works of the great Tibetan teacher. He was born is 1936 in Eastern Tibet, and was recognized as a Rinpoche (Precious One) at age seven. He is believed to be an incarnation of Siddha Gar Chodingpa, a heart-disciple of Jigten Sumgön, founder of the Drikung Kagyu lineage in the 13th century.
Around the age of 22 he joined in the armed defence of Tibet, and was subsequently caught and jailed by the Chinese for the next 20 years. Life in jail was very tough indeed, but it was there he met his root guru, Khenpo Munsel, who passed on many teachings. Since his release in 1987 Rinpoche has worked especially hard to help preserve and restore Tibetan culture, and has given many teachings around the world.
This film includes interviews with both Rinpoche himself, and others who knew him at crucial times during his life’s journey, and also interviews with some of his devotees who have been touched both by his teachings, and the way he lives them out. The film itself presents a very impressive personality, one worthy of the name of a Bodhisattva.
