Discovering Tibet 2: Lhoka, the Soul

Posted on September 11, 2020September 11, 2020 by Dharma Documentaries
A look at some of the dances, festivities and cultural events in Tibet.

Discovering Tibet 2, Lhoka, the Soul

This is the second of two films produced by the Tourism Development Board of Tibet and shown on China Global Television Network (CGTV) highlighting some of the region’s most visited sites and showing some of its best known cultural artifacts.

This week’s episode focuses first of the many dances and festivals that have developed amongst the Tibetan regional groups, and we see some of the very colourful and interesting cultural events that are performed throughout the year, as well as learn something about the crafts involved in them.

As with the previous episode there is also a lot of information about some of the beautiful and remote countryside, including the lakes, mountains and plains. As elsewhere, in Tibet these natural formations play an integral part of the culture and are woven into the folklore that has come down the ages.

In the later stages of the film when the focus moves to Shigatze we also learn a fair amount about Buddhism and Buddhist practices, and we see the pilgrimage around Mt. Kailash, and visit the shores of the beautiful Lake Manasarovar. The films end with a trip to the ancient kingdom of Guge.
