This is a report by Foreign Correspondent for ABC in Australia looking at the issue of women’s ordination in Thailand, and following two women as they approach their ordination, one temporarily, one intending to take full ordination.
The film centres around Anne and Achara who want to experience the monastic life as taught by the Buddha, but find there are still limited options for them. In Thailand they cannot take higher ordination because the Thai monastic hierarchy are against women ordaining.
Still they persevere and through the good offices of Ven Dhammanandā at Wat Sngdhammakalyani they are able to fulfil their aspirations. The film talks to those who support, and to those who oppose, women’s ordination to get an idea of the arguments on both sides of the divide.
